About Florida

Florida's official state nickname is "The Sunshine State". Ponce de Leon named Florida, which means "full (or feast) of flowers", after the beautiful abundance of flowers he saw when he landed here in 1513. Florida entered the Union on March 3, 1845 as the 27th state. The major industries include tourism and agriculture (winter vegetables & fruits, and of course, citrus!). Florida is also home to many points of interest like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Busch Gardens just to name a few!

The warm sub-tropical climate with mild winters and hot summers are what Florida is known for! You can expect an average summer high of 80°F, and an average winter high of 55°F. Summer is the rainy season with a pretty good chance of afternoon thundershowers.
